Temple Thoughts - April 8, 2012

Pray about everything; tell God your needs…If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. – Philippians 4:6-7 (TLB)

When we go to God with our problems, our worries, our needs, it helps to talk them over with him – with our Father. The answer sometimes will come unexpectedly. But you know it is from him. Peace of mind is a blessing, as is knowing he is always there.

Temple Thoughts - April 7, 2012

Bring up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

                                                                                     – Proverbs 22:6

I volunteer in the church office on Monday mornings. Like all the office volunteers, I have the chance to see the children come in for day school. Early in the year there are many tears. The “great unknown” renders moms helpless in the face of their little ones’ fears. But gradually, the love and patience of the day school teachers, coupled with growing trust in the routine, wins over the children. As we Christians grow older – as we walk forward into the unknown – we trust in the Savior. His love and patience are enough. – Janet Cline

Temple Thoughts - April 6, 2012

In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus’ ministry following his temptation in the wilderness is introduced with the prophet, Isaiah’s words (NIV):

The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned. Matthew 4:16.  Matthew continues in vs. 17:  From that time on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.’  This is the truth … that Jesus came to earth to be with us and to testify to God’s grace and redemptive power.  Do you feel him?  He is available at your invitation.

Dear God, we thank you for your Son, Jesus, and the grace that he offers us to become your children.  Amen                        -- Ray Cline

Temple Thoughts - April 5, 2012

Helping and praying for others, Easy and Joyful.
Being brave enough to ask for prayer for yourself -- wondering if it is ok, or are you worthy. Hard and Scary.
The kind and comforting look in that person’s face and the touch of them holding your hands and praying with you. Peaceful and PRICELESS.

Temple Thoughts - April 4, 2012

"To you I call, O Lord my rock: do not turn a deaf ear to me", Psalm 28:1
For the most part, we are poor listeners. As someone who is struggling tells us their hurts, even when we've made ourselves available, our thoughts drift away to our own problems...our tasks for the day…where we'll eat tonight. When we cry out, aren't you glad God makes us His priority and listens? --Charles Morgan

Temple Thoughts - April 3

Choose this day whom you will serve…but for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. – Joshua 24:15
Do you wake up in the morning and start your day thanking and praising God? That is how you will feel all day, if you start the day off right –thanking God for our blessings, for being alive – and praising him. Try it! – Lynn Broussard
Note: If you wish to remain on the list of recipients of these daily devotions, do nothing. If you do not wish to receive them, hit reply and tell me to take you off the list. I will welcome appropriate, short devotional writings from any Temple member or friend. I do, however, retain the right to edit and select. – Janet Cline

Temple Thoughts - April 2, 2012

1 Samuel 2:1

1And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

Have you ever been surrounded by doomsayers? Naysayers? Doubters? Basically overwhelmed and influenced by those who say you cannot do what God says you can do? Hannah was surrounded by those kind of people. Her secret? Her mouth was “enlarged” in KJV. Her secret was when the world says “you can’t do it” she would say repeatedly “my God can do it.” This is not a “blab it and grab it” theology; rather it is a realization that God’s word is eternal and we have to say what He has said to watch faith work in our lives.

Father I am surrounded by doubters and fear. Help me keep your word in my heart and in my mouth so my meditations will be pleasing in your sight. Amen -- Dave Arena
